HISTORY OF IEEE MBITS

The IEEE Student Branch at Mar Baselios Institute of Technology and Science (MBITS) was established on 3rd July 2022 with an initial membership of 34 students. It was formed with the aim of promoting technical excellence, innovation, and professional development among students.

The branch was initially guided by Dr. Robin George, Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), and led by its first Student Chair, Dileep Kumar A. from the ECE Department. The official inauguration was conducted by Dr. Rajesh M. V, Chairman of the IEEE Kochi Subsection at that time.

At present, the branch is led by Branch Counselor Prof. Minu Mary Joy, Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (ECE), and Student Branch Chair Tisa Tijo. Under their leadership, the branch has grown significantly, now boasting a membership of 188 students across various departments.

Since its inception, IEEE SB MBITS has launched four active Student Branch Chapters (SBCs): the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS), the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS), the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group,the IEEE Computer Society (CS) and the IEEE Sensor Council. These chapters play a vital role in organizing workshops, technical talks, coding competitions, and hackathons, fostering an ecosystem of innovation, collaboration, and technical growth within the institution.
